Motor Grader Operator – Heavy Highway Civil
Location: Houston, TX
Job Type: Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
Reports To: Foreman or Superintendent
About the Role
We’re seeking a skilled and safety-focused Motor Grader Operator to join our heavy highway civil construction team in Houston, TX. In this role, you will support roadway, bridge, and infrastructure projects through precise grading, equipment operation, and adherence to safety standards. Responsibilities
- Operate motor grader to fine grade subgrade or base surfaces for roadways.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and construction plans.
- Ensure grading meets correct drainage, elevation, and project specifications.
- Perform pre-operation inspections, daily maintenance, and basic equipment repairs.
- Assist with additional tasks and duties as assigned to support project needs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience operating a motor grader in civil or highway construction.
- Strong understanding of equipment operation, maintenance, and job site safety.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Familiarity with construction plans and grading processes.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Work performed outdoors at active construction sites in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Requires strong hand–eye coordination, spatial awareness, and safe operation of heavy equipment.
- Exposure to loud noise, vibrations, moving machinery, dust, and other construction-related hazards.
- Must be able to maintain focus and awareness in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Required PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility vest, and safety-toed boots.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on TXDOT projects and familiarity with their specifications.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to perform minor equipment repairs and routine maintenance.
- Experience operating additional construction equipment.
