Title: Statistical Data Analyst
Location: Columbia, SC (hybrid model)
Contract: 6 month contract + extensions/conversion
Pay: $40-$46/hour + optional medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match
Overview
This role involves developing complex statistical analyses, reports, and data visualizations for the Medicare Statistical Analysis Department. The candidate will support data integrity, create ad hoc reports, and assist in transitioning from SAS to Python for data programming tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops difficult statistical analysis using standard reporting, ad hoc reporting, and data mining tools to identify patterns and trends. Prepares charts, illustrations, and narrative reports to explain data findings.
- Develops, maintains, and executes complex database programs for data extraction and presentation, creating supporting documentation.
- Develops complex sampling design and/or execution methodology for sample selection.
- Provides sophisticated data interpretation, compilation, and verification to guide departmental efforts.
- Participates in writing articles for internal/external publication, potentially assuming a leadership role.
- Assists in developing project plans, performing quality checks on relational database tables, and developing focused end-user applications.
- Participates in development of change requests and testing plans for database modifications, researching new data sources, and providing feedback to management.
Required Skills
- 4 years of statistical programming or interpretation experience
- 5 years experience with statistical software and relational databases
- Proficiency in SAS and/or Python
- Experience converting SAS to Python (strongly desired)
- Knowledge of SQL and data visualization tools
- Strong communication skills, including ability to communicate with non-technical audiences
- Ability to create clear, detailed documentation
- Deep understanding of statistical analysis within a healthcare/Medicare context
- Ability to adapt quickly to new environments and systems
- Self-motivated and confident in tackling challenging problems with limited guidance
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
- Experience with data visualization, dashboarding, and modeling
- Familiarity with Databricks
- Experience working with Medicare or healthcare data
