Job DescriptionJob Title: Swiss Machinist

Job Description

The Swiss Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC Swiss-style lathes to produce precision aerospace components in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and experience working with tight tolerances and exotic materials commonly used in aerospace manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC Swiss-style turning centers (e.g., Citizen, Star) for precision machining of aerospace components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T drawings, and process sheets to determine machining operations, sequence, and dimensions.
  • Select, install, and adjust tooling, collets, and work holding fixtures for optimal machining performance.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or deviations from specifications and make adjustments as needed.
  • Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, optical comparators, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Ensure parts meet all dimensional and surface finish requirements in accordance with aerospace standards (AS9100, NADCAP, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot and correct issues with programs, tooling, or setups to maintain production efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to optimize machining processes and improve throughput.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Complete required production and quality documentation accurately and timely.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient with G-code programming and CNC controls.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring tools and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to hold tight tolerances (+/– .0001").
  • Familiarity with materials such as titanium, stainless steel, Inconel, and aluminum.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with setting up and operating CNC Swiss-style lathes.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards such as AS9100 and NADCAP.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $76960.00/yr.
