Title: Quality Inspector
Location: Novi, MI
Salary: $60,000
Note: This position is a direct hire role on W2, and is NOT open to C2C.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electronic Quality Control Inspector with strong experience in manual PCB inspection, wire harness inspection, and IPC-A-610 compliant workmanship standards. This role performs hands-on, visual, and mechanical inspection of electronic assemblies, ensuring all components meet internal and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience inspecting circuit boards, identifying soldering and assembly defects, reviewing wire harness integrity, and documenting non-conformances with precision and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual/visual inspection of assembled circuit boards and electronic components per IPC-A-610 standards.
- Use X-ray equipment for targeted inspection of hidden solder joints, BGAs, and other complex components.
- Inspect wire harnesses for workmanship defects, continuity issues, routing accuracy, and compliance with drawings/specifications.
- Identify solder defects (cold joints, bridging, insufficient wetting, voiding, etc.) during PCB inspection.
- Verify component placement, polarity, orientation, and overall assembly quality.
- Inspect mechanical and electrical assemblies for non-conformance to drawings, work instructions, and engineering standards.
- Document all findings, recording non-conformances with detailed accuracy.
- Support corrective action activities by providing defect data and communicating quality risks.
- Maintain traceability and adhere to all ISO, IPC, and internal quality system guidelines.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to ensure proper build quality and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Mandatory: IPC-A-610 Certification.
- 3+ years of hands-on inspection experience in electronics manufacturing, PCB assembly, or related industry.
- Strong ability to visually inspect SMT and through-hole components.
- Experience inspecting wire harnesses and cable assemblies for compliance and workmanship quality.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and assembly documentation.
- Familiarity with identifying common assembly defects and failure modes.
- Experience documenting non-conformances accurately and thoroughly.
- Basic understanding of ESD and safe handling of electronic components.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with X-ray inspection systems (BGA analysis and hidden joint inspection).
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 (wire harness standards) is a plus.
- Previous experience in a high-mix, low-volume electronics manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
