Laboratory Support Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Support Technician to join our team. This full-time evening position runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, offering a consistent schedule and excellent work-life balance. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting laboratory operations by ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in daily workflows. Your contributions will directly enable our team to deliver timely and reliable results in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:

Specimen Processor Duties:
\n

- Answer phone inquiries and investigate specimen status.
- Receive, sort, prepare, and deliver specimens for analysis.
- Demonstrate courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude.
\n

Additional Duties:
\n

- Perform routine instrument maintenance and record temperatures.
- Restock supplies and maintain clean storage spaces.
- Prepare and replenish instrument reagents and consumables.
- Perform QA/QC procedures.
- Assist with specimen/slide storage and retrieval.
- Check pending work lists and resolve unprocessed work.
- Decontaminate work area and clean glassware.
- Test and clean emergency eyewashes and showers.
- Sort and dispose of laboratory waste.
- Transport specimens off-site and deliver supplies.

Additional Duties (Pennsylvania locations only):

- Prepare specimens for testing, including building worklists, checking acceptability, aliquoting, and loading/unloading instruments.
- Prepare microscopic slides and plant specimens in microbiologic growth media.
\n
\n
- \n
- High School diploma or equivalent, and at least 2 years of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) required in a clinical lab,\n
- \n
- OR associate degree (with biology and chemistry courses) and at least 1yr of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab,
- OR Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification and 1 yr of experience as a Specimen Processor (or equivalent) in a clinical lab,
- OR Successful completion of a 50 wk U.S. military medical laboratory training course,
- OR B.S. degree from an accredited institution with a major in a biological or clinical laboratory science
- OR currently enrolled in an MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or equivalent training program, with 3 years of college credits required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Medical Laboratory Assistant MLA (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred. Valid driver's license if one is departmentally required.
