Summary
The Research Coordinator will support and oversee the execution of multiple clinical research studies across inpatient and outpatient units at The Menninger Clinic. This position may contribute to clinic-wide outcomes research as well as focused research projects examining topics such as mental health, predictors of treatment response, resilience, recovery and relapse, and emerging and innovative interventions.
The role involves direct interaction with patients and clinical staff, coordination with academic and institutional partners, and administrative responsibilities related to regulatory compliance, data quality, and reporting. Depending on the study, the Research Coordinator may also accompany participants to off-site locations (e.g., academic medical centers) for study procedures such as neuroimaging.

Key Functions
Study Coordination & Operations
- Oversee day-to-day execution of multiple research protocols across Menninger Clinic units (inpatient and/or outpatient).
- Serve as a primary point of contact between research teams and Principal Investigator(s).
- Track study progress and communicate recruitment, retention, and milestone updates to investigators.
- Coordinate research workflows and, when applicable, supervise research assistants or trainees.
- Prepare and maintain study-related documentation, including protocols, manuals of procedures, consent forms, and correspondence.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Prepare, submit, and manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, amendments, continuing reviews, and related correspondence.
- Ensure adherence to institutional policies and federal and sponsor regulations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date regulatory binders and study records.
Participant Interaction & Clinical Research Activities
- Recruit, screen, consent, and enroll patients across inpatient and outpatient programs into research studies.
- Communicate with participants via face-to-face interactions, phone calls, and email throughout their participation.
- Conduct standardized assessments and clinically complex research or diagnostic interviews, as appropriate to training and protocol requirements.
- Schedule and coordinate research-related appointments, tests, and procedures (e.g., laboratory tests, imaging, behavioral tasks).
- Coordinate and attend off-site study visits when required (e.g., MRI scans at Baylor College of Medicine or other partner institutions).
- Communicate relevant study participation information to clinical teams to support coordinated and safe patient care.
Data Management & Outcomes Research
- Ensure timely and accurate data collection across studies.
- Perform data cleaning and quality assurance checks, to ensure data are analysis-ready.
- Generate and distribute research and outcomes reports for participants, clinicians, investigators, and other stakeholders in a timely manner as appropriate given the study.
- Support longitudinal follow-up and retention efforts for outcomes research.
Research Dissemination & Professional Development
- Work closely with clinician-scientists and interdisciplinary research teams and receive mentorship in clinical research methods and scientific communication.
- Participate, as appropriate and based on interest and performance, in data analysis, abstract preparation, conference presentations, and manuscript development.
- Participate, as appropriate and based on interest and performance, in research meetings and contribute to discussions related to study design, interpretation, and dissemination.
Administrative & Resource Management
- Coordinate acquisition and management of research supplies and equipment.
- Assist with budget tracking and financial oversight for research projects.
- Perform other research-related duties as assigned.
Education
Required: Bachelor’ degree.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in psychiatry, psychology, social work, neuroscience, public health, or other degrees translational mental health research. This position is ideal for highly motivated early-career professionals seeking hands-on clinical research experience prior to applying to medical school, graduate programs (PhD, PsyD, MPH), or other health-related training programs.
