Summary
A biotechnology startup focused on sustainable aviation fuels is seeking a Research Associate I to support trait discovery and strain assessment efforts. This is an entry-level, hands-on laboratory role ideal for candidates with experience in cell biology, microbiology, or molecular biology who are excited to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform aseptic, laboratory-scale cultivation of algae
- Prepare cultivation media and vessels, including autoclaving
- Collect routine culture measurements using spectroscopy, microscopy, and flow cytometry
- Prepare samples and support algae strain performance and physiological assessments
- Calibrate laboratory instruments and cultivation systems
- Document experimental procedures, analyze data, and summarize results
- Perform basic molecular biology techniques including PCR and gel electrophoresis
- Work fully onsite in laboratory and greenhouse environments
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or related field
- 1–2 years of academic or industry laboratory experience
- Strong aseptic technique and familiarity with biosafety cabinets
- Ability to follow written and verbal protocols
- Strong communication skills for reporting results and progress
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
