Position Summary
We’re building advanced automation and robotic systems that solve real-world problems for customers across North America. The Controls Engineer plays a leading role in turning concepts into machines that move, think, and perform with precision.
This role owns control system development from requirements through commissioning — PLCs, motion platforms, robotics, safety systems, and field integration. You’ll work hands-on, side-by-side with mechanical engineers, operations, and customers to design, build, and deploy solutions that make a measurable impact.
If you want to build systems that get installed on real factory floors — not just live in a CAD model — this is the right seat.
Why This Role Matters
- You get to build real systems. You don’t just write code — your work becomes a working machine.
- Wide scope. Quoting → design → programming → build → install → support.
- Lots of variety. AMRs, SCARA, 6-axis robotics, motion systems, safety logic, integration.
- Customer exposure. Real conversations with real users — you see the impact.
- Small-team velocity. Less bureaucracy. Your ideas matter and get implemented.
- Career runway. Pathways into Lead Engineer, PM, or Solutions Architect roles as we scale.
This is a place for builders — people who want to tackle technical challenges and see their work run.
Essential Responsibilities
- Design and program controls for robotics and automation (PLCs, motion, robots, HMIs, peripherals).
- Convert customer requirements into clear technical specifications.
- Build and review electrical schematics and panel layouts (AutoCAD Electrical; SolidWorks).
- Support cost estimating and scope development for engineered projects.
- Commission systems: startup, debug, troubleshoot, and refine.
- Ensure compliance with electrical and safety standards.
- Produce accurate documentation: BOMs, wiring diagrams, manuals, and specifications.
- Support fabrication, assembly, FAT, installation, and after-install troubleshooting.
- Keep current with controls, robotics, and industry technologies.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in automation or controls engineering.
- Strong PLC and robot programming background.
- Experience with motion control, industrial networks, safety circuits, and sensors.
- AutoCAD Electrical proficiency; SolidWorks helpful.
- Confident communicator comfortable with customers and shop-floor teams.
- Capable of juggling multiple projects and delivering clean, reliable solutions.
Work Environment
- Office + manufacturing/assembly floor environment.
- Must have valid driver’s license; travel to customer sites as required.
- Travel to other RG Group facilities and customer sites as required.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent work experience considered
- 5+ years of engineering design experience required.
