JSG is seeking a General Machinist II for an on-site, contract-to-hire position for a client in Pomona, CA. Work hrs., 6 am - 2:30 pm

This is an apprentice-level position. Working under the supervision of the Manufacturing Lead and/or the Manufacturing Supervisor, the General Machinist II sets up and operates machinery. It operates machine tools and fits and assembles parts to make or repair metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines. The General Machinist II works to the dimensions and tolerances of the piece to be machined, as well as the sequence of operations and machines required, by studying specifications such as blueprints, sketches, damaged parts, or a description of the parts. Plans and executes assignments using machine tools, including boring tools, calipers, drilling machines, grinding machines, lathes, milling cutters, and workshop presses.

Essential Job Duties

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables, or study sample parts.
  • Work on the dimensions and tolerances provided by blueprints
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools, including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools, to perform precision
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Edit programs as needed / Write short programs as needed
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine needs for adjustments or repairs
  • Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal
  • Scan all jobs through the Made2Manage (M2M) system

Other Duties

  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to the supervisor
  • Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One year of machine shop experience required
  • Completion of a technical trade school, or the equivalent of education and experience, or trade certification for a general Machinist is preferred.
  • Completion of a technical trade school apprentice program within four years is required.
  • Ability to use measuring devices to verify that work meets blueprint specifications
  • Basic shop math skills, including knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and their applications, are required.
  • Able to edit programs
  • Able to write short programs
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Possess effective organization and time management skills, be detail-oriented, use good judgment, manage competing priorities for multiple projects, and consistently meet all deadlines.
  • Must have experience in both CNC and manual operations. Prefer them to have both FANUC and HAAS controls for Lathes.
