Position: Instrumentation and Control Technician
Location: Florida (travel within Florida)
About Universal Controls: Universal Controls is a trusted third-party service provider, specializing in maintenance and regulator-required certified calibrations for custody transfer meters, wellfield flow meters, and a wide array of instrumentation. We serve clients throughout Florida and southern Georgia, ensuring their instruments are calibrated to the highest standards for quality assurance, safety, and compliance.
We are seeking a self-motivated and effective Field Service Technician that can under limited supervision, install, test, calibrate and repair instrumentation for our customers. Must be capable on installing, programming, calibrating, troubleshooting, repairing analyzers, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, and especially flowmeters of all types and associated loops and controls. Uses electronic test equipment and calibration equipment on both energized and de-energized electrical circuits. Must have a working knowledge of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, computer networks, programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, telemetry, instrumentation and variable frequency drive and motor control center installations.
Performs other related duties as required.
Operates a motor vehicle to respond to service requests at various locations statewide
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma, Associates Degree or Equivalent training / experience in a related field
- Fluent skills in AC/DC electrical circuits and plant controls. Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment
- Ability to work from drawings and instruction manuals. Ability to read and understand schematics and P&ID drawings.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of electricity, electrical safety, circuits, control, equipment, electrical and instrumentation schematics
- Experience with a strong range of instrumentation and calibration equipment
- Experience with PLC, pneumatic control valves and systems, basic electronics, motor control systems and process control systems
- Ability to read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels, water chemistry to verify operating conditions.
- Ability to perform annual instrument calibrations as part of the electrical and instrumentation team. Ability to properly use electrical test equipment and other similar tools.
- Good oral and written communication skills and organizational skills
- Good computer skills such as MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel etc.)
- Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique I&C problems is desirable
- Good Customer relations skills
- Willing to work overtime and on weekends as needed
- Travel within Florida, sometimes overnight
- Pass drug screen
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
