Job Description
The Distillation Chemist will conduct processing operations related to the purification of organic chemicals using distillation techniques and related support systems. Responsibilities include transporting, pumping, mixing, heating, cooling, analysis of various chemical substances, and completion of batch process documentation and administrative tasks. The role requires setting up and adjusting distillation equipment, operating heating, cooling, vacuum, and pressure systems, and ensuring product quality, yields, and lot consistency through monitoring process parameters.
Responsibilities
- Set up and adjust distillation equipment.
- Operate heating, cooling, vacuum, and pressure systems.
- Transport, weigh, mix, and pump chemical materials.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area.
- Use analytical equipment to assess the quality of distillation cuts and final products.
- Understand and interpret results with supervision.
- Monitor process parameters to ensure product quality, yields, and lot consistency.
- Ensure proper care, safety, maintenance, and usage of technology, equipment, and systems.
- Serve as a technical resource for Distillation Technicians.
- Maintain all necessary production, safety, inventory, training, and other records and logs.
- Read, understand, and carry out all department and companywide SOPs.
- Assist and carry out instructions in emergency or high-stress scenarios.
- Comply with all safety, environmental, and food safety policies and procedures.
- Receive and carry out instructions on specific assignment objectives.
- Ensure daily compliance with federal food safety regulations and company GMPs.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.
- 2+ years of laboratory experience.
- Experience in distillation.
- Knowledge of GMP and organic chemistry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- BS/BA in Chemistry, or related field, preferred.
- Associate’s Degree may be substituted with significant hands-on training and experience.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in distillation preferred.
- Experience in fragrance chemistry is a plus.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 6 am to 3 pm. The position involves potential exposure to toxic chemicals, hazardous materials, fumes, unpleasant odors, and physical risks, which require strict adherence to safety precautions and training. The role requires physical effort, including handling containers, moving 55-gallon drums weighing up to 700 lbs, lifting 5-gallon containers weighing 44 lbs, using ladders, and standing or walking for more than 4 hours per day. Training requirements include interactive online safety training such as OSHA HAZCOM, PPE, HAZWOPER, Fall Protection, and Respirator Protection. Classroom training includes emergency evacuation procedures, fire extinguisher training, and hazardous material handling. The dress code includes a company-provided uniform, steel-toed boots, and a respirator mask.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $59000.00 - $78000.00/yr.
