Job Description:

Portledge School seeks to hire a dynamic Middle/Upper School mathematics teacher for a full time leave replacement position from April 2026-June 2026. The ideal candidate will have a strong mathematics background with the flexibility to effectively teach Pre-Algebra, PreCalculus, Calculus (college prep and AP) as well as IB Analysis and Approaches. This individual should be driven to create a classroom environment where student learning is a non-negotiable goal and passion is evident on a daily basis. Responsibilities include teaching 6 sections of mathematics, participating collegially in meetings and initiatives of the mathematics department, serving as an advisor to a group of ten upper school students, and taking an active role in the life of the school community. This position will report to the Middle and Upper School Division Heads.

Qualifications:

  • BA Degree minimum; advanced degree preferred in relevant area(s)

  • Teaching certification preferred

  • Candidates with formal teaching experience given preference

  • Superb written and oral communication as well as organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to comfortably, warmly, and effectively engage with large and small groups of adults and/or students in professional or social settings

  • Belief in the value of all types of diversity with a commitment to social justice and equity

  • Anti-racism/anti-bias training preferred

  • A commitment to the qualities embodied by the Portledge pillars: Kindness, Purpose, Honor, Respect

  • Desire to nurture the whole child and to support students by attending all school events such as art, music, theater, athletics and community functions.

  • Committed to teaching and nurturing social emotional learning of children

Compensation Range:

$175-$225 per day
